The below statuses and definitions are based on the most recently available HPD information.
You can see the below statuses as they’re updated in your SiteCompli account, and use them to filter and sort data on the HPD Violations page. We’ll also alert you any time the status changes on a violation.
Violations are typically marked as Dismissed or Closed by HPD to show compliance, and can sometimes be marked as Removed afterwards. All other statuses listed below are considered open.
Additionally, some specific statuses like Lead Docs Submitted, Acceptable are not shown below, with no public definition from HPD. Ask your Customer Success Manager if you have any questions about a specific HPD status.

NOV Sent | NOV Sent Out | The Notice of Violation was sent to the registered owner or “Owner of the Premises” |
NOV Cert | NOV Certified on Time | The violation was certified as corrected by the Owner on time, and properly. |
NOV Late | NOV Certified Late | The violation was certified as corrected by the Owner but was not submitted to HPD in a timely manner. Therefore, the certification was not acceptable |
POSTP Grant | Certification Postponement Granted | The property owner applied to HPD to extend the correction date for the violation, and HPD granted the request. The new correction and certification date is in the columns NEW CORRECT BY DATE and NEW CERT BY DATE. |
POSTP Denied | Certification Postponement Denied | The property owner applied to HPD to extend the correction date for the violation, and HPD denied the request. The condition must be corrected by the original correction date. |
False Cert | False Certification | The violation was certified as corrected by the Owner on time and properly. A subsequent re-inspection of the condition by HPD found that condition had not been properly corrected. The violation is open and is subject to civil penalties for false certification. [SiteCompli note – these penalties increased significantly in December 2023] |
Open | Violation will be reinspected | HPD will be attempting to reinspect this violation |
Defect Letter | Defect letter issued | The violation condition was observed corrected by the Department. However, documentation required to close the violation has not yet been received and the violation remains open. |
Not Complied | Not Complied With | A reinspection of the violation found that the condition still exists as of the status date. |
1 No Access | First No Access to Re-Inspect Violation | HPD attempted to reinspect the violation but there was no access. The violation remains open. |
2 No Access | Second No Access to Re-Inspect Violation | HPD made a second attempt to reinspect the violation but there was no access. The violation remains open. |
Open | Violation Reopen | The violation was returned to open status from closed. |
Info NOV Sent | Info NOV Sent Out | Info NOVs are notices that an order has been issued by the Department. These orders do not have associated certification or correction dates and are used to serve notice upon current and future owners regarding open agency Orders. |
Cert Invalid | Invalid Certification | A certification has been submitted but was not acceptable due to a defect in the certification documentation. |
Partial Access | Complied In Access Area | This status applies only to window guard violations. An inspection resulted in a finding that some window guards had been installed, but that there was no access to confirm installation in all windows. |
CIV14 Mailed* | CIV14 Mailed to Tenant | HPD will use this status when a letter is sent to the resident after an owner has certified correction of a violation. The letter asked the resident to verify that the condition was corrected |
CIV10 Mailed* | CIV10 Mailed to Tenant | If a resident says a violation has not been corrected, the agency will issue a CIV10. We believe this is sent to the resident – it’s unclear if anything is sent to the landlord. |
Notice of Issuance* | Notice of Issuance Sent To Tenant | This status designates when a notice is sent to a resident informing them of a newly issued violation. |
